CRATES

Crates are QuantumRift’s loot boxes. Buy a crate key from the Crate Master, walk to the crates standing behind him, and right-click the crate with its key to spin the reel. The four crates he sells keys for drop cosmetics: pets, effects and chat tags. A fifth, the Vote Crate, drops resources, and sometimes a premium crate key or a Tokens voucher. Its keys are never sold. Crates never pay Credits or Tokens straight into your wallet.

Every drop is a voucher: an item you right-click to unlock, or keep and sell on the Flea Market. A drop you already own is still worth something.

The crates

During the normal season the Crate Master sells keys for four crates:

The cosmetic crates hold every cosmetic of their kind except the rank-exclusive sets. The Cosmetics Merchant still sells the same cosmetics in its rotation.

Two more crates exist for the start and the end of a world: the SOTW Crate and the EOTW Crate. They are only open for a limited time and, like the Vote Crate, they can drop items. They are closed during the alpha and beta.

The Vote Crate

The Vote Crate is the pink crate. Its key, the Vote Key, is not sold by the Crate Master and a Crate Key Voucher cannot be traded for one: Vote Keys are earned two ways:

• Voting for the server. /vote lists the vote sites with a link each and shows which ones you can vote on right now. Every vote gives you one Vote Key, even if you are offline when you vote: the key is waiting when you join.
• The monthly vote leaderboard. The five players with the most votes in a calendar month (UTC) win 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 Vote Keys. /vote leaderboard shows the board, and so does the Referrals tab of your PDA.

Voting opens once the server is listed on the vote sites. Until then /vote says that voting is not open yet.

You get a reminder in chat when you log in, and every few hours, while there is a site you can still vote on. You can switch it off in /settings.

Like every other key, a Vote Key can be given away or sold on the Flea Market.

It mostly drops bundles of resources, each a voucher that turns into the items when you right-click it. It can also drop a key to one of the four premium crates, or a voucher worth 500 Imperial Tokens:

A big bundle is more than one stack, so its voucher needs one free inventory slot per stack: three for the iron, two for the gold and the emeralds.

Cool, Fresh, Friendly, King, Queen, Hot, Cold, Better, Worst, Alien, Chill, Rookie, Boss, Ghost, Wizard, Pirate, Ninja, Goblin, Dragon, Lucky, Sleepy, Hungry, Salty, Spicy, Sweet, Wild, Lazy, Chaotic, Noble, Rogue, Nomad, Outlaw, Sunny, Stormy, Cosmic, Glitch, Spooky, Grumpy, Sneaky and Brave. Each has its own color and symbol, for example ♚ King ♚ or ❄ Cold ❄.

Odds

In the four cosmetic crates every drop has exactly the same chance: 1 in the number of drops. A Pets Crate drop is 3.70% (1 in 27), a Tags Crate drop 2.50% (1 in 40). There are no rare or common drops there.

The Vote Crate is the one crate with rare drops: its three big bundles are 4% each, each premium crate key 1%, the 500 Tokens voucher 0.1% (1 in 1,000), and the nine small bundles share the rest equally. Nothing is hidden: punch any crate and every drop shows its own chance.

The roll uses the server’s cryptographic random generator, the same kind used for passwords and security keys, so no one can predict it. Owning a drop does not change the odds: there is no reroll. You get the voucher, and you can sell it.

Getting crate keys

Right-click the Crate Master in the Imperial City to open his key shop:

• Pick a crate, then buy 1, 2, 5 or 10 keys. You need one free inventory slot per key.
• Keys cost Tokens. Every purchase asks you to confirm first.
• Crate keys are no longer sold in /tokens or /store.

Crate Key Vouchers from Rank Eggs

Claiming a Rank Egg gives you Crate Key Vouchers. Each one trades for a key to any open crate you choose:

Right-click a voucher anywhere, or open the Crate Master’s Vouchers page, then pick the crate.

Opening a crate

The crates are the colored shulker boxes behind the Crate Master, each with its name floating above it.

• Right-click a crate with its key in your hand to open it.
• Punch (left-click) a crate to see everything it can drop, with the odds and an “Owned” mark on what you already have.
• Right-clicking a crate without its key shows the drops too, and tells you which key you need.

The reel is the same on every client: a row of the crate’s drops spins past two green markers and slows to a stop on what you won. When it lands you get the voucher, a firework and a chat line naming your drop.

Your drop is saved before the reel starts. If you close the menu or disconnect mid-spin, the voucher is still yours: it arrives when the reel ends or the next time you join.

Vouchers

• Right-click a voucher to unlock what it holds. A cosmetic is equipped right away, a tag goes into your /tags, and a Tokens voucher adds its Tokens to your wallet.
• If you already own it, the voucher stays in your hand. Sell it on the Flea Market or give it to a friend.
• Keys and vouchers do not stack. Each one carries a serial number (shown in its lore) and can only be used once, so a copied item is worthless.
• If your inventory is full, keys and vouchers wait for you and arrive as soon as a slot is free.

Selling on the Flea Market

Keys, vouchers and rank eggs are sold one per listing, under the Collectibles category. Vouchers for the same thing share one order book, so you can also post a buy order for, say, any King tag voucher. While a key or voucher is listed it cannot be used anywhere else. Cancel the listing to get it back.

Good to know

• Opening crates counts toward the crate milestone tags. Your very first crate open, of any crate, unlocks the Crate Opener tag.
• Crate keys, Tag Merchant papers and Cosmetics Merchant papers from before this update are no longer valid. They are removed when used.
